Albany to JFK and on to Lisbon!
We got out of work at 3:30 and headed home to finish preparing. The packing had gone well, we think. Only one suitcase, plus the wine checks. Hopefully we can go all carry-on.
You can see that we have allotted more space for wine, than we have for clothes! The two black containers on the right are wine checks. Each holds 6 bottles, safely nestled into a styrofoam insert, and so far they have worked great as checked luggage. We bought them in South Africa about 3 years ago and so far they have brought wine back from there, Australia, Chile, and Portland Oregon. Really handy.
We were on the road about 4:20. Not a bad drive to JFK. Traffic was steady but never too bad, and we got to the long-term lot at 7:45. We found a good spot and caught the train to terminal 4.
It was quite empty and there was no wait at either the check-in counters, or at security. We got to the lounge with time to spare, and had time for a snack and some drinks. Finally, we were on vacation!
Boarding was on time and we had our glass of sparkling wine, as usual. Hoping for an on-time departure.
And we pushed back 5 minutes early. Wheels up at 10:06, so amazingly we are on track for an early arrival! Time for a little dinner...
And then maybe some sleep? It's only a 5h50 flight, so it may be tough. I actually like the longer overnight flights - 10 or 11 hours is just right for me. We'll see how I do on this one.
